Life of Blessing

Posted on June 16, 2016 by Daniel & April

Even though I know God knows what I need before I do, it still amazes me every time!

Those thoughts creep in of “what am I doing? Am I doing what I’m called to do? I’m not helping anyone am I?” Then I open my devotionals for the day and God shows me once again I’m doing alright and continue to strive to bless others.

So here’s another great devotional by Joyce Myers and I hope it blesses you as much as it blessed me.

Living a Life of Blessing
I believe that one of the greatest opportunities we have as Christians is to make a profound difference in the lives of others. Throughout my life of ministry, God has given me the opportunity to help many people who need guidance.

But I don’t believe this is a special opportunity that God made just for me. Everyone, you included, has the ability to influence someone. When you take the time to reach out to others and invest in someone’s life, you are impacting the world…yours and theirs.

Galatians 6:10 tells us to “be mindful to be a blessing” to everyone God brings across our path. We are called to be a blessing and build up others in their faith, to not be afraid to reach out and to speak the truth in love.

I don’t believe God wants us to be mere spectators in life. He wants us to be people who really love others and care enough to be willing to pour into their lives. We need to build up others in Jesus’ name so they can grow and reach even more people.
Whether you know it or not, someone’s watching and looking up to you. People are influenced by the way you live and they need to see God’s love in your everyday actions.

At times we’ll make mistakes, and when we do we can thank God for His forgiveness, but we also have to realize that many times we may be the only evidence of God some people see.

Prayer Starter: God, every day there is another opportunity that You have given me to reach out, bless and influence someone else with Your love. I want to live a life of blessing toward others, showing them what it means to live a God-focused life.

Just Say No

Posted on June 6, 2016 by Daniel & April

The simple phrase “just say no” can have such deep meaning and change your stress level dramatically. It seems so easy to say, but yet it’s hardly ever used when it’s highly called for. I know it’s a huge struggle for us personally. We want to be everywhere at all the family gatherings, kids sports, kids camps, volunteering at church, going out with friends, helping the PTA but at what cost to our sanity? Does it really put our family first if we are so stressed out about or during the activity that we can’t even enjoy it?

Read these wise words from one of my favorite authors, Joyce Myers:

When It’s OK To Say “No”

In Numbers 11, Moses gives us an example of what we can do when we’re under stress. Talk about pressure, he was leading the Israelites through the wilderness on what should have been an eleven-day trip and instead ended up taking forty years!
The people were depressed and weeping over their situation. In verse 14, Moses tells God, “I am not able to carry all these people alone, because the burden is too heavy for me.”
Like Moses, it’s okay for us to say, “I’ve reached my limit.” Yes, scripture says, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Phil. 4:13 NKJV), but that’s really referring to times when we face various trials and situations that God will help us through.
It doesn’t mean we should take on so many responsibilities that we completely burn out, like the woman who is raising five kids, works full-time, serves on the church board, etc.
Sometimes, it’s all just too much…and it’s okay to admit that. It’s also okay to say “no” to some things so you can really enjoy life the way God intended.
Here’s a newsflash: You and I don’t have to be like everyone else or keep up with anyone else. God created some people to handle large amounts of work, but many people aren’t made this way.
Each of us needs to be who God created us to be, and we don’t have to apologize for it. We each need to individually find the balance of responsibility God has established for us to live in so we can enjoy our life, instead of making ourselves sick with an overload of stress and pressure.
When you reach your limit, go to God, just like Moses did. He will help you find a saner, healthier lifestyle.

Prayer Starter: God, sometimes it’s hard for me to slow down and say no to more responsibility. Help me to live with the balance of responsibility You created for me, so I can live with Your peace and enjoy life.

Jump-Start Your Dreams

Posted on April 2, 2016 by Daniel & April

What is the dream that God’s placed in your heart?I’m not asking if you have one, I already know it’s there because God gives all of us dreams.

I’ve seen people do all kinds of things to their dreams. Some people bury them so deep in their hearts in order to protect them from the criticism of others. Some people set them out of sight so they don’t have to think about them anymore. And some people finally just give up on their dreams because it hurts too much to hold on.

If your dream needs a jump-start, there are two things I want you to remember. First, you need to get a vision that’s clear. And second, you must keep your vision in front of you at all times.

But having a vision doesn’t mean that it will instantly appear. God’s as interested in the process of vision as He is in the end result.

The apostle Paul said in Philippians 4:11-13 that he had learned how to be content and satisfied to the point where he was not disturbed by whatever state he was in. In other words, he never allowed himself to get upset with where he was at the moment, he was always looking forward to where he could be.

That means you, like Paul, need to find a balance between contentment and ambition. Here’s the key: Learn to enjoy where you are on the way to where you’re going.

When you have a dream or a vision, you have to keep it in front of you. If it helps, write it down. And remember, God will help you live the dream He’s given you, step-by-step, one day at a time.

Prayer Starter: Jesus, even though I don’t always feel like it and life tries to get me to quit, I believe You have a great plan for my life. I choose to trust You to help me live the dream You’ve given me more than I trust my circumstances.

Keep Your Face To The Sunshine

Posted on September 9, 2015 by Daniel & April

Face-The-SunShineSuppose you learned that Jesus Christ is the Light, and that in Him is no darkness. Suppose you wrapped your mind around that. It would bring sunshine into the darkest corners of your world.

John quoted Jesus as saying, “I am the light of the world . . . I have come as a light into the world, that whoever believes in Me should not abide in darkness” (John 9:5, 12:46). John later told us to walk in the light (1 John 1:7). That knowledge in our minds brings hope and joy to our souls.

Live In The Sun Shine

Posted on September 6, 2015 by Daniel & April

Live-IN-SunShineSunshine in Your Mind
☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️
In times of suffering, choose to walk in the light, to “cheer up” and “live in the sunshine.”

We mind our attitude by minding our thoughts, for as a person thinks in his heart, so is he (Proverbs 23:7). ❤️

“You will keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on You” (Isaiah 26:3). ☁️

Jeremiah faced cruel days, but deliberately turned his thoughts to God’s unfailing compassion and great faithfulness. “This I recall to mind,” he wrote, “therefore I have hope” (Lamentations 3:21-24).

In real life there may not always be actual sunshine but YOU can CHOOSE to never stop living in the light.

Respect The Flag

Posted on July 1, 2015 by Daniel & April

FlagDisplay1fbpostSo many people today have a complete lack of respect for symbols of our nation.  It’s sad they don’t even understand the freedom that allows/tolerates their disrespectful speeches, rants, and actions. At one time, American’s took pride in the American flag and treated it with the respect it deserved. They were taught flag etiquette and they practiced it.
In today’s liberal culture, flag etiquette is no longer taught and many Americans no longer treat the flag with respect.

Well we can’t control our entire nation, but we can control what is taught in our homes. It’s our job to teach our kids how to respect our flag and why.

Respect is showing regard for the worth of something or someone. The flag of our country is more than a something. The flag is a symbol of our living country and itself is considered a living thing. When you show respect for the flag, you are showing respect for all it represents.

Dear Lord, Thank you for our wonderful country, the servicemen and women who have guaranteed our freedom, and the flag, which is a symbol of both our country and our freedom. May we always be respectful of our flag and remember that respecting our flag honors those who have sacrificed so much so that we can enjoy the freedoms of our country.

If you want to educate your family on respecting our flag here is the United States Flag Code:

Flag Etiquette

STANDARDS of RESPECT

The Flag Code, which formalizes and unifies the traditional ways in which we give respect to the flag, also contains specific instructions on how the flag is not to be used. They are:

The flag should never be dipped to any person or thing. It is flown upside down only as a distress signal.

The flag should not be used as a drapery, or for covering a speakers desk, draping a platform, or for any decoration in general. Bunting of blue, white and red stripes is available for these purposes.

The blue stripe of the bunting should be on the top.

The flag should never be used for any advertising purpose. It should not be embroidered, printed or otherwise impressed on such articles as cushions, handkerchiefs, napkins, boxes, or anything intended to be discarded after temporary use. Advertising signs should not be attached to the staff or halyard

The flag should not be used as part of a costume or athletic uniform, except that a flag patch may be used on the uniform of military personnel, fireman, policeman and members of patriotic organizations.

The flag should never have placed on it, or attached to it, any mark, insignia, letter, word, number, figure, or drawing of any kind.

The flag should never be used as a receptacle for receiving, holding, carrying, or delivering anything.

When the flag is lowered, no part of it should touch the ground or any other object; it should be received by waiting hands and arms. To store the flag it should be folded neatly and ceremoniously.

The flag should be cleaned and mended when necessary.

When a flag is so worn it is no longer fit to serve as a symbol of our country, it should be destroyed by burning in a dignified manner.

Note: Most American Legion Posts regularly conduct a dignified flag burning ceremony, often on Flag Day, June 14th. Many Cub Scout Packs, Boy Scout Troops, and Girl Scout Troops retire flags regularly as well. Contact your local American Legion Hall or Scout Troop to inquire about the availability of this service.

Displaying the Flag Outdoors

When the flag is displayed from a staff projecting from a window, balcony, or a building, the union should be at the peak of the staff unless the flag is at half staff.

When it is displayed from the same flagpole with another flag – of a state, community, society or Scout unit – the flag of the United States must always be at the top except that the church pennant may be flown above the flag during church services for Navy personnel when conducted by a Naval chaplain on a ship at sea.

When the flag is displayed over a street, it should be hung vertically, with the union to the north or east. If the flag is suspended over a sidewalk, the flag’s union should be farthest from the building.

When flown with flags of states, communities, or societies on separate flag poles which are of the same height and in a straight line, the flag of the United States is always placed in the position of honor – to its own right.
..The other flags may be smaller but none may be larger.
..No other flag ever should be placed above it.
..The flag of the United States is always the first flag raised and the last to be lowered.

When flown with the national banner of other countries, each flag must be displayed from a separate pole of the same height. Each flag should be the same size. They should be raised and lowered simultaneously. The flag of one nation may not be displayed above that of another nation.

Raising and Lowering the Flag

The flag should be raised briskly and lowered slowly and ceremoniously. Ordinarily it should be displayed only between sunrise and sunset. It should be illuminated if displayed at night.
The flag of the United States of America is saluted as it is hoisted and lowered. The salute is held until the flag is unsnapped from the halyard or through the last note of music, whichever is the longest.

Displaying the Flag Indoors

When on display, the flag is accorded the place of honor, always positioned to its own right. Place it to the right of the speaker or staging area or sanctuary. Other flags should be to the left.

The flag of the United States of America should be at the center and at the highest point of the group when a number of flags of states, localities, or societies are grouped for display.

When one flag is used with the flag of the United States of America and the staffs are crossed, the flag of the United States is placed on its own right with its staff in front of the other flag.

When displaying the flag against a wall, vertically or horizontally, the flag’s union (stars) should be at the top, to the flag’s own right, and to the observer’s left.

Parading and Saluting the Flag

When carried in a procession, the flag should be to the right of the marchers. When other flags are carried, the flag of the United States may be centered in front of the others or carried to their right. When the flag passes in a procession, or when it is hoisted or lowered, all should face the flag and salute.

The Salute

To salute, all persons come to attention. Those in uniform give the appropriate formal salute. Citizens not in uniform salute by placing their right hand over the heart and men with head cover should remove it and hold it to left shoulder, hand over the heart. Members of organizations in formation salute upon command of the person in charge.

The Pledge of Allegiance and National Anthem

The pledge of allegiance should be rendered by standing at attention, facing the flag, and saluting.
When the national anthem is played or sung, citizens should stand at attention and salute at the first note and hold the salute through the last note. The salute is directed to the flag, if displayed, otherwise to the music.

The Flag in Mourning

To place the flag at half staff, hoist it to the peak for an instant and lower it to a position half way between the top and bottom of the staff. The flag is to be raised again to the peak for a moment before it is lowered. On Memorial Day the flag is displayed at half staff until noon and at full staff from noon to sunset.

The flag is to be flown at half staff in mourning for designated, principal government leaders and upon presidential or gubernatorial order.

When used to cover a casket, the flag should be placed with the union at the head and over the left shoulder. It should not be lowered into the grave.

The Mayonnaise Jar Lesson

Posted on August 7, 2013 by Daniel & April

mayonasse-jar

-The Mayonnaise Jar-

When things in your life seem almost too much to handle, when 24 hours in a day is not enough, remember the mayonnaise jar and two cups of coffee.

A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him.
When the class began, wordlessly, he picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and fills it with golf balls.

He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was.

The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured it into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls.

He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was.

The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else.

He asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded with a unanimous “YES”.

The professor then produced two cups of coffee from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar, effectively filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed.

“Now,” said the professor, as the laughter subsided, “I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life. The golf balls are the important things – God, family,

children, health, friends, and favorite passions. Things, that if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full. The pebbles are the things that matter like your job, house, and car. The sand is everything else — the small stuff.” he said.

“If you put the sand into the jar first,” he continued, “There is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes for life. If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff, you will never have room for the things that are important to you…” he told them.

“So… pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Worship with your family. Play with your children. Take your partner out to dinner. Spend time with good friends. There will always be time to clean the house and fix the dripping tap. Take care of the golf balls first — the things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand.”

One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the coffee represented.

The professor smiled and said, “I’m glad you asked. It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem, there’s always room for a couple of cups of coffee with a friend.”

————————————————————

We are so very thankful for all of the golf balls in our life!
