According to Daniel Gurrola
It’s the most wonderful time of year!
Pismo Beaches Annual Clam Festival. One whole weekend devoted to his favorite food, Clams!
Our clam filled weekend kicks off with the Friday night Wine Walk. We got to walk all over down town Pismo tasting different wines and awesome Hors d’oeuvres.
Saturday we hung out at the pier fair and checked out all the cool vendors. Then as soon as it got close to 11am we headed to the clam chowder cook off. We got to sample 9 different chowders then vote on our favorite.
After sampling chowder you of course needed fish n’ chips to round out your lunch menu. We headed over to Chele’s our favorite fish n’ chips restaurant and shared a fantastic order of the best fish n’ chips.
After a great meal it was time to go do something fun…. Bowling! We went bowling for a few hours over at Pismo Bowl. No records were broken but we had a lot of fun.
Next on our fun weekend hit list was checking out all our favorite shops to see if there was anything new.
We found some really cool bird houses made by a local guy who is really creative.
I don’t think any birds would actually live in them, but they just look cool.
There’s always something fun to check out in all of the shops out here. We wanted to buy the whole collection of these bird houses, but we figured they’d end up housing all of the lizards around our house.
Another fascinating new creation we discovered was this new traveling treat.
Yes that is correct, you read it right… Cheese Cake Chocolate Dipped On a Stick! We never tried it but it must have been good because the line was around the block.
After all of our shopping it was time for Daniel’s afternoon snack, we headed over to PizMo. It’s a great little Italian restaurant. Ice Tea and bread sticks make a great snack.
Now that we had refueled we decided to go check out the art galleries. First we went to the Thomas Kinkade gallery. His paintings are amazing in person. It’s amazing what he can do with light.
The next gallery we went to featured several local artists and had everything from metal work to huge oil paintings. Visiting that place just makes you want to grab a paint brush and start painting.
It was getting late so we headed back to our hotel since we need to be up bright & early for Brunch and Bubbles on the pier.
Sunday morning is our favorite but we also dread it because we know we have to leave to go back home and vacation is over.
Our table had a lovely center piece and the weather could not have been more perfect.
They had two new restaurants helping cater the brunch and they were fantastic. Plus they had two new champagne’s they had created. Quiche and mimosas what more could you possibly need.
It was a beautiful day. We enjoyed every minute of it. We hung out at the pier for hours just talking to different people we’ve met over the years out there.
Before we knew it, it was already 4pm. We decided to go to dinner before heading home. We picked a new restaurant to try out. Baku a Japanese place. We ordered sushi and a Japanese style clam chowder. It sounds strange but it was very good. It was jazz night at the restaurant so we also got to enjoy a live jazz band. It was a great evening and end to our fantastic weekend.
